Rush alluded to the said phony soldiers during his hugely successful daily radio broadcast, prompted by what he reasonably believed was a caller’s reference to it.

As a result, he is being castigated for dishonoring authentic troops in a trumped up controversy generated by Media Matters — a left-wing propaganda machine with pockets lined by left-wing activists. The charge is being led by top Democrats who, when not busy defending other top Democrats for smearing our troops as “reminiscent of Genghis Khan,” terrorists, murderers, and comparable to “Nazis, Soviets in their gulags or some mad regime — Pol Pot or others — that had no concern for human beings,” fall mute when the vanguard of their hard-left base, MoveOn.org (abetted by the New York Times), describes the general heroically leading our forces in Iraq a traitor.

And this is a story?

And make no mistake: this law is unconstitutional. As former Attorney General Edwin Meese recently wrote, "Congress only has express constitutional jurisdiction over three crimes: treason, counterfeiting, and piracy on the high seas. Because the federal government is one of limited and enumerated powers, Congress must find authority in other constitutional clauses to federalize particular crimes."

They Are Phony Soldiers

Reid is trying to distract the Democrat Party's anti-war base from his failure to remove us from Iraq by manufacturing a news event. Rush Limbaugh never, ever called anti-war soldiers "phony." He was speaking about actual men, like Jesse MacBeth and others, who faked military credentials to win the attention of anti-war groups.

Senator Harkin brought up Rush Limbaugh's prescription pain addiction in an attack so disgusting, it desecrated the United States Senate itself. Remember, Harkin knows a thing or two about phony soldiers: the Iowa Democrat lied about fighting in Vietnam. When he was caught, he simply "clarified." It's time someone told these liberals that they don't get to infinitely revise their remarks, and they certainly don't have the right to interpret what people like Rush mean when they speak.

The Washington Post puts out their semi-regular polling blasting President Bush and his conduct of the Iraq War. But wait! What's this? More than half of Americans prefer President Bush's plan for victory over the Democrat plan for defeat. Could it be because the news bears out the success of the surge, with Iraqi civilian and U.S. Military deaths dropping?

Things Going Good?

Things have gone so well, in fact, that leading Democratic contenders have stopped calling for a "timetable" for withdrawal and can't even promise they'll remove all the troops by 2013.

In short, the U.S. is — yes, we'll use the word —winning the war against al-Qaida. And not just in Iraq. In fact, the only way we won't win is if we do something very stupid — such as letting the overwhelmingly negative media convince us we can't do what we clearly are doing.

Newt says he's not running for president because McCain-Feingold Law bars him from using funds from his American Solutions effort. The left suddenly cares what the Christian Right thinks. Why? Because they found some to say they're distressed with Rudy and may go with a third-party candidate a'la Ross Perot, who helped hand Hillary's husband the presidency with only 43% of the vote.
