Fix FISA

Article about the administration need for the amending of FISA.  Read it here.

Either we trust the administration to fight the war on terrorism as forcefully as it can while still protecting our rights, or we think it's up to something sinister.

The ACLU and other so-called civil libertarian groups believe the latter — and it has more to do with their longstanding biases toward Bush in particular and Republicans in general than the wiretap issue that Congress is wrestling with. Their prejudices have them so intent on opposing whatever the administration does to fight this war, they are willing to be pawns for the enemy.

The same can usually be said about the Democratic Party, also known as the Party of Defeat. At least in this instance Democrats are showing some concern about security — even if it is politically motivated.

Follow The Money

  • Someone on TH told me to follow the money found the below information in a blog, it's a story you don't hear or see on the MSM.  Read it here.

  • After the second quarter fund raising numbers of the Presidential candidates were announced there was a general din (if not genuine glee) among the Popular Press that the total amount raised by the Dems (about twice that of the Republicans) was a financial asteroid aimed at the heart of the GOP.

  • Ok. You already know all that, but what you may not know is that at the national committee level, the Republican National Committee is kicking the Democratic National Committee's … wallet pocket.

  • Unlike Presidential campaigns which report every quarter, the national committees report every month.

  • In the month of June, the Republican National Committee raised about $6.4 million. For the month. The DNC raised about $4.1 million. For June.

  • So what? The GOP had a short spurt which got them a couple of million more in June? So this: If you look at fund raising for the cycle, the RNC has out-raised the DNC about $45 million to about $28 million. A fund raising edge for the GOP of $17 million.

  • Need more? How about the ever-popular Cash on Hand number? Howard Dean and his DNC enters the second half of 2007 with CoH of a touch under $5 million. The GOP goes into the second half with Cash on Hand of nearly $16 million.

  • Oh, you hadn't heard this? Why, I'm shocked.

  • Last number: The Democratic Committee has a debt of $2 million. The RNC has a debt of … Zero. So, in reality the CoH differential is not 16-5. It is really 16-3 something on the order of a five-fold edge.

  • If Republican donors are angry, exhausted, anti-Bush, and anti-Iraq, what does that say about Democratic donors?

    Media And BDS

From opinionjournal.com. Tell me that this is not the usual media
hatred of President Bush? Be sure to read the ABCNews article.

    God Bless America, Eh http://www.abcnews.go.com/print?id=3433005

ABCNews.com reports that a growing number of Americans are moving to
Canada to get away from President Bush:

    *** QUOTE ***

The number of U.S. citizens who moved to Canada last year hit a 30-year
high, with a 20 percent increase over the previous year and almost
double the number who moved in 2000.

In 2006, 10,942 Americans went to Canada, compared with 9,262 in 2005
and 5,828 in 2000, according to a survey by the Association for Canadian
    Studies. . . .

"There has been a definite increase in the past five year--the number
hasn't exceeded 10,000 since 1977," says Jack Jedwab, the association's
    executive director. . . .

The current increase is fueled largely by social and political reasons,
    says Jedwab.

"Those who are coming have the highest level of education--these aren't
people who can't get a job in the states," he explains. "They're
coming because many of them don't like the politics, the Iraq War and the
security situation in the U.S. By comparison, Canada is a tension-free
    place. People feel safer."

    *** END QUOTE ***

But ABC buries the lead, waiting until the fifth paragraph to reveal
that more Canadians are coming here, and trying to downplay that to boot:

    *** QUOTE ***

Of course, those numbers are still outweighed by the number of
Canadians going the other way. Yet, that imbalance is shrinking. Last year,
23,913 Canadians moved to the United States, a significant decrease from
    29,930 in 2005.

    *** END QUOTE ***

These numbers actually understate the disparity by an order of
magnitude. Canada is a sparsely populated country; there are more than nine
times as many Americans as Canadians. That means that when adjusted for
population, 20 times as many Canadians moved south in 2006 as Americans
moved north. If we liberate Iran too, we may not be able to keep up with
    influx of Canucks.

More CO2 And Iraq War Deaths

This is from opinionjournal.com. This is great first because of the low casualty
figures for July in Iraq, and the way they tie it into "global warming."

Those who want to lose in Iraq, or who don't know the meaning of the
word win, might be worried about U.S. casualty figures for July, which is
    the lowest
    http://www.usatoday.com/news/world/iraq/2007-07-31-iraq-tuesday_N.htm
    since before the "surge" began.

But never fear: USA Today "weather guy" Doyle Rice has a theory that
gives no credit to the U.S. military:

    *** QUOTE ***

Maybe even the Iraqi insurgents can't take the heat. . . . July is
typically a month with less casualties in Iraq--in each of the past four
years of war, July has been one of the least deadly months for U.S.
    soldiers fighting in Iraq.

While some speculate this is a sign that the tide is turning there this
year, perhaps we can look to the weather instead. July in Iraq is
unrelentingly, mercilessly hot, with high temperatures well above 100
degrees each day, with few clouds and no precipitation. Average highs in the
summer typically rise to 110 degrees, while some areas have reported
temperatures as high as a blistering 118 degrees.

I'm no soldier, but this seems to be a legitimate reason for the
    reduction in violence each summer.

    *** END QUOTE ***

Take heart, defeatists: It's just the weather, something completely
    beyond America's control.

But wait. If you read the papers, you know that all scientists agree
America does control the weather. Warm weather is caused by "climate
change" or "global warming," which in turn is caused by Americans' driving
    SUVs, raising flatulent livestock, etc.

So every time you take your Hummer out for a spin, you are helping warm
the planet and thereby make terrorists in Iraq less dangerous. By
contrast, those who argue that we should forestall global warming are
helping kill American servicemen. Have they no sense of decency?

    Where Is MSM Outrage?

Silently Martyred  Christian missionaries brutally slain in the name of Islam… Judging by the world's reaction, this is now expected behavior on the part of Qur'an thumpers.

    Why Even Touch A Qur'an?

Flushed Korans and Protected Victims  The government pays to have a crucifix dunked in urine and a Virgin Mary picture smeared with cow dung, but ordinary citizens who desecrate the Qur’an are charged and arrested.
